Follow these three simple pieces of advice and keep supporters engaged with your cause:
1. Be yourself
Being forthcoming, transparent and letting your team’s personality shine through your posts will go along way. In the age of social media, people expect to be able to connect with those delivering the message from the other side of a computer screen – digital is becoming increasingly human. Share photos of your team working in the field or in the office – place a face to your organization. The more personally connected people feel, the more likely they are to remain engaged and supportive of your cause.
2. Focus on the positive
Positive posts often get more attention than negative ones on social media like Facebook. A University of Pennsylvania study recently showed that “More emotional stories were more likely to be e-mailed, the researchers found, and positive articles were shared more than negative ones.” Being positive will keep people coming back to your site or social media outlets to find out how you are changing the world and what inpspiring stories you have to share.
3. Have conversations
Social media isn’t just to spew out links and blast people with shameless self-promotion, it is to actually connect with others. The power of the Internet has allowed us to speak with and learn from others who we wouldn’t have otherwise had the chance of interacting with. Utilize access to information by engaging in conversation with supporters, people in disagreement, and others in your field and related fields. Having conversations a great learning tool for your organization. It also makes people feel intellectually stimulated and more personally connected to your brand. If they know talking to you will elicit a response, they’re more likely to engage more often, retweet your tweets and share your Facebook posts.
